RDMG-Newsletter #003

Editorial

Hello,

Communication is currently a focus area of RDMG. In March, it was present at a retreat of the cluster initiatives that have applied for excellence clusters , to present services and offerings. A meeting is scheduled for April 25, 2024, for individuals involved in data stewardship . A rerun of the best practices presentation is in the pipeline; a date is still being sought. There will also be another event for the FDM coordinators from the faculties, who are now complete.

Best regards,

Jan Leendertse

Presentation for Cluster Initiatives

The University of Freiburg is preparing to participate in the [Excellence Initiative]((https://uni-freiburg.de/universitaet/themen-im-fokus/exzellenzstrategie/) . In addition to the two existing excellence clusters, two additional clusters have been invited to submit a full application. At a retreat initiated by the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, RDMG informed about the components of research data management that should be considered in a full application. Such events bring about a clarification of conceptual considerations, benefiting less extensive research projects.

FDM Onboarding for Researchers

There is an overview of services and information for incoming researchers regarding research data management. It aims to summarize what may potentially be useful for new colleagues to find organized research data management beyond the hectic of third-party funded projects.

Research Data Management in Practice

SFTPgo as a graphical frontend for S3 storage

Following further tests on how the object storage of bwSFS (S3) can be integrated into data processing workflows, SFTPgo will be rolled out to initial user groups. This provides a graphical user frontend, enabling access to object storage via SFTP and WebDAV. SFTPgo will be introduced at the Data Stewardship meeting .

ORCID-ID

The ORCID-ID is used for automated data exchange with the Research Information System (FIS). With an ORCID-ID, data sets in ORCID, FreiDok plus, and the FIS can be automatically synchronized. This synchronization also works after changes to names, email addresses, and organizational affiliations.
