Strategy

German version

With the goal of expanding the research strength of the University of Freiburg, research data management becomes a field of work to be systematically addressed. The RDMG is involved in strategy development and provides information for planning and decision-making. This process takes place in the business area of the Prorector for Research and Innovation and involves central institutions, faculties and research clusters.

The resulting work areas of the RDMG operational organization, communication, awareness us training, data storage, publication and ongoing self-evaluation are presented on further pages.

Policy for handling research data

With the Policy on Handling Research Data adopted in 2022, in the formulation of which the RDMG played a major role, and which has been passed by the Rectorate and taken note of by the Senate, the University has committed itself to providing resources for institutional research data management and to supporting researchers. The Policy also states the demands that the University, as a self-governing organization, places on researchers.

The Rectorate has decided in 2022 that the ORCID iD is authoritative for the unique identification of publishers. The ORCID id is mandatory for recording the publications of members of the university in connected systems. The ORCID iD is already integrated in FreiDok plus and in HISinOne . For unambiguous addressing of publications of all kinds, the use of Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is recommended.

On the basis of the policy, faculties, clusters and communities can set their own more specific guidelines that meet their own requirements and make more concrete agreements. This signals to researchers how guidelines that seem abstract can be put into practice.

Linkage to existing regulations

In the connection to further obligatory regulations such as good scientific practice , ethics guidelines, the order for honesty and open access , the FDM policy gains further relevance.

Third-party funding eligibility and collaborative capacity

With the FDM Policy, the University of Freiburg has implemented the requirement of the DFG as the most important funding body in Germany, which is expected for general third-party funding eligibility. It is a signal to all other funding bodies that the university has recognized the need for institutional research data management and that it is ready to cooperate with the DFG.
